E-Stim, Electrostim, Electrosex or Electroplay are all names for one simple idea - the use of electricity to stimulate the human body.

You cannot use a TENS unit for audio play - you will need an E-Stim unit with audio inputs.

For safety always stick to playing below the waist. It is possible to play in other areas, but we like to avoid passing current through the chest.

Remember to get ElectroStim to work you need two points of contact on the body.

What do I need?

You need an E-Stim control unit that is capable of working with sound. Not all E-Stim units are the same, and not all E-Stim units can work with sound. A lot of people also get E-Stim confused with TENS units, they are not the same! A TENS unit will not work with sound.

Inputs

You also need some way to get the sound into the box, either via a microphone or a plug in input from your MP3 player.

Outputs

Once the sound is in the box, it needs to be converted to an e-stim signal that can be attached to electrodes on or in the body. Dual output channel units offer a much better range of sensation, but not all offer a stereo output.

Audio Boxes

A list of commerically produced audio boxes we are aware of as of May 2017.

E-Stim Systems 2B™

In our opinion the most versatile e-stim box available - (we would say that as we designed it!), and that before you add in the fact it has stereo audio processing, decent displays and a built in microphone. It also is CE certified and comes with a lifetime guarantee.

E-Stim Systems ElectroPebble®

A new (2016) electrobox to the market, with a built in Microphone and 9 modes. Does not offer a 'line in' option, but had excellent audio processing and a great display. Its also Dual Channel and it also is CE certified and comes with a lifetime guarantee.

E-Stim Systems ABox

Simple and easy to use, the same size as the 2B but a bit lighter and simpler to use. It Has a built in ‘Mixer’ to convert the stereo input to a single output,as well as a build in microphone. The ABox also has a second audio input that allows you to monitor the sound going in. Great as a starter box. It also is CE certified and comes with a lifetime guarantee.

ET312B

Considered by many to be the best, but in our opinion it is a bit long in the tooth now. Also not CE certified. Has 3 audio modes, and if you want to use a microphone, you have to plug one in. Its also rather expensive at over £500 in the UK.

ET232

Small and reasopnable effective, Built in mixer converts stereo into mono, as well as a built in microphone. Has some E-Stim Functions as well, but at £334, it is over twice the price of the ABox.

ET-302R

E-Stim Remote from ErosTek, no audio input apart from a built in microphone. More designed for remote control play.

ElectraStim EM140

Same sizes as the ABox and 2B, but with no built in microphone, and no stereo processing. The EM140 also applies the sound wave to a fixed output signal giving 'modulation' which we found to be not very comfortable. Microphone supplied, but its a plug in style. CE certified.

Build your own

An option if you are technically minded, but fraught with failure and if you don't understand some of the issues, as there are serious safety risks. Not something we would recommend, but if you are interested have a look at smartstim.com
